Frequently asked questions
We offer a tailored service, but our structure varies from one owner to a possible 100 shareholders.
Matty Williams, our Bloodstock Manager, has over 25 years' experience in sourcing horses and will purchase all our horses, working together with vets and, at times, other bloodstock advisors.
This varies depending on the percentage purchased and the individual pricing of each particular horse. Our pricing structure for each horse is explained in detail on our website.
It is our intention to attend all major sales across Europe, when buying needs meet plans for CT.
The upfront payment includes the purchase price of the horse, vetting at the sales, GBB bonus registration (if applicable), sales house commission (5–7.5% of the auction price) and agents' commission (typically 2.5–5%). If we purchase a yearling, transportation to the breaking yard in preparation for its onward journey to the trainer is also covered.
The monthly payment is guaranteed to cover all invoiced training expenses, standard veterinary treatment, blacksmith, breaking in, training, race day transport, feed and living costs, plus all associated administration, the jockey's riding fee, trainer's attendance fees and CT management fees. This can be paid upfront, annually, or by monthly Direct Debit.
Ownership to the full value of your percentage share in your chosen racehorse, including your percentage of all prize money and any resale value, plus entry to the Owners and Trainers' enclosure. There will be opportunities for stable visits, and we will also host unique events and hospitality throughout the year.
O&T badges are only allotted to a certain number of owners. If you're part of a 15–20-strong syndicate, then you are guaranteed a badge. For larger syndicates, we will always do our best to accommodate shareholders, but ballots for O&T badges will take place for larger numbers, with a badge guaranteed for any shareholder with a 5% or more share in a horse.
It varies, but CT takes particular pride in doing the best for the horse and the syndicate — whether that means keeping a horse in training to reach its full potential, or selling when we feel a horse has reached its ceiling, both in terms of value and ability.
No. Owners' payments to CT do not include VAT. All VAT will be paid by CT and reclaimed if applicable.
There will only be additional costs if the horse is injured and requires surgery. The CT Syndicate Manager, Bloodstock Manager, trainer and vets will advise the syndicate on the cost of surgery. A vote will then be put to shareholders as to how to progress according to the majority, with veterinary costs split equally between all shareholders, pro rata per percentage share.
Each trainer will be picked by the Syndicate Manager and Bloodstock Manager, with decisions based around compatibility, sourcing from the best trainers in the UK and Europe.
Stable visits will be organised on the syndicate WhatsApp group chat, with the intention of at least 1–2 visits per season.
Race day plans for owners will be established and organised on the individual syndicate's WhatsApp group chat.
When a horse is sold, CT will take 10% of the resale, and 20% if the sum exceeds £1M. After basic costs, the remaining proceeds will be divided equally between shareholders. All horse purchases are made with a plan in mind around the racing career, while being aware and mindful of peak values.
CT will take 10% of any Black Type or Sales race prize money, leaving the remainder to be divided amongst shareholders after outgoing costs and percentages to trainer, jockey, travel (if abroad) etc. CT will take no percentage of any non-Black Type or Sales race prize money, allowing 100% to be divided among syndicate members after costs.
At the end of each season, the CT Syndicate Manager, Bloodstock Manager and trainer will discuss the horse's future, consulting with the individual horse's syndicate group members around options, before making a final decision.
No. Racing is very much a hobby and a passion, with no guarantees around success — which, of course, is part of its charm. It should not be viewed as an investment. However, CT is very conscious and aware of valuations and maximising exit strategies around our team of horses.
No, prices will not change and you will only be contacted for additional funds on surgical care if the horse were to need it, plus any Group Race entry fees, which would be charged at a pro rata cost linked to your share percentage. (Group Races indicate a seriously significant standard of racehorse.)
When you purchase a share, the horse is not insured. However, you may choose to insure your share, and this can be done independently. Should we progress quickly to pattern race performers, we may write to each syndicate member to ask if you would like the horse insured at a stated value.
Any payments will be made directly into your bank account, once costs have been deducted and the funds have cleared from Weatherbys Bank.
