Shallow Bowles

Bay Mare, aged 6

Trainer

Nick Schofield

Trainer, Felstead Court, Lambourn

Nick started training in Lambourn in the autumn of 2025 after rubbing shoulders with some of jump racing's finest ever jockeys during a distinguished career in the saddle that included a number of Cheltenham Festival and top-flight triumphs.

The son of prolific point-to-point rider Philip, Nick grew up with horses and was successful in a host of riding competitions before excelling as a showjumper in his teens.

A spell point-to-pointing coincided with joining Paul Nicholls' all-conquering Somerset stable, and the yard's Lou Du Moulin Mas provided him with his first winner under rules at Newbury in 2006, while two years later he was crowned champion amateur.

Related to a smart half-brother who has performed well on quicker ground.

About This Mare

A six-year-old mare with four runs already in the locker, three of them eye-catching — including when beaten just ten lengths by El Cairos on her penultimate start. There won't be any hanging around with her this autumn.

All four starts so far have come on heavy ground, but she's related to a smart half-brother who enjoyed a sounder surface, and we're excited to get her running on better going — she has shown herself to be a strong-travelling mare.

She's boasting a rating of 103 in Ireland, and will pick up a UK mark of around 108. It's fair to say we're expecting her to visit the winners' enclosure sooner rather than later.
